  1. (intransitive) to believe, have faith [with illative ‘in’] (someone's abilities, chances etc.; someone's existence; the power, value etc. of something; the existence of something)
    Antonym: epäillä
    Uskotko häneen? ― Do you believe/have faith in her?
    Uskotko kuriin? ― Do you believe in discipline? / Are you a believer in discipline?
    Uskotko enkeleihin? ― Do you believe in angels?
    Uskotko pystyväsi siihen? / Uskotko, että pystyt siihen? ― Do you believe you can do it?
  2. (transitive, usually atelic) to believe (someone, in something someone says/does), trust
    Uskon sinua tässä asiassa. ― I trust you in this matter.
    En usko sinua. ― I don't believe you.
    Ethän sinä minua usko, mutta kerronpa silti... ― I know you're not going to believe me, but I'll tell you anyway...
  3. (transitive) to believe (something to be true)
    Uskon sen. ― I believe it.
    En usko sitä. ― I don't believe it.
  4. (transitive) to entrust, to confide [with allative ‘to’]
    Synonym: luottaa
    Uskon nämä avaimet sinulle. ― I entrust these keys to you.
    Voinko uskoa sinulle salaisuuksiani? ― Can I confide my secrets to you?
