Taistella (Verb type3)

Translations

  1. (intransitive) To fight, struggle (to contend in physical conflict; with weapons; if the enemy is mentioned, it is in the partitive case, followed by the postposition vastaan).
    Isoisäni taisteli sodassa.
    My grandfather fought in the war.
    Suomi taisteli Neuvostoliittoa vastaan toisessa maailmansodassa.
    Finland fought the Soviet Union in the Second World War.
  2. (intransitive, figuratively) To fight, compete, contest (usually followed by the goal, e.g. voitosta, “for the victory”).
